Torque & Thunder Garage

A site for a fictional car repair garage. The goal was a site that answers the questions people ring a garage about, and books them in.

The brief

People usually arrive at a garage’s site worried about a noise or a warning light, and unsure about the cost. They need to know what to do next, roughly what it will cost, and how to book.

What we built

  • A symptom checker that points to the likely area and how urgent it is, then carries the details into the booking
  • A five-step booking flow that recognises the car, keeps what you typed and lets you edit anything from the review step
  • A price estimator and price tables that scale with the size of the car
  • A repair tracker, a simulated workshop board and booking cancellation

Decisions worth explaining

Safety before sales

The checker never claims a diagnosis. Answers like a soft brake pedal or a flashing engine light lead to “Stop driving it” and an offer to collect the car, not to a sales pitch.

Only published prices

The estimator only uses prices already printed on the site, with the same scaling, so the numbers can’t disagree. A review caught one case where they did: a flat $60 fee rising with car size. We fixed it.

No framework

A garage site doesn’t need one. One script with small, separate features keeps pages fast and easy to hand over.

Honest demo labels

We removed a made-up star rating and labelled the sample reviews, stats and workshop board. Bookings stay in your browser, and the site says so.

What we tested

We checked all five pages at desktop and phone width for layout, tap targets and contrast, and walked through booking, the tracker and cancellation by hand. There are no automated tests. For a real client, we’d add them around booking.

What it doesn’t do

The garage is fictional and no booking reaches anyone. A real version needs a small server to receive bookings and send the confirmation and quote messages.
